Regular member attendees were:
Roy, Ed, Bill, and Greg
We found the note on the church door letting us know we were having the club meeting over in Roy's basement. Presumably due to Greg needing a IIgs to play with for his e-mail demo.
It was noted that Roy would not be available this Saturday for hosting the AppleLinc Saturday edition, so those of us present agreed to have it the 26th instead. Ed agreed to update the web page and send out announcements AND bring the doughnuts.
Bill worked on straitening out the pins on a Mac CPU Roy wished to use. Bill discussed the Lisa quite a bit with some spill over chat about CPUs.
Roy had a project for a Franklin computer and Ed was able to solder up some RAM chips for Roy using a RadioShack 30W soldering iron. There was not enough time to test it out, hopefully all works well as the RAM got soldered directly into the main board despite Bill's objections. Bill thinks we should have soldered sockets to plug the RAM in to. (Ed agrees with him, but none were to be found and Roy wanted it done as it had been rather a long while in the making.)
Greg and Ed had an agenda to get SAM (email program) running on one of Roy's computers. As per usual, at least one trip has to be made to find the necessary pieces to get it up and running. At which point it failed miserably. Greg's PC for some reason has not been able to connect to the internet and retreive his e-mail. Ed has tried many IIgs boxes and alternate hardware and even an alternate ISP to no avail, and suspects a conspiracy or hardware failure. Greg worked fervantly on Roy's IIgs to make it work and met witht the now very familiar results.
On the up side, there was e-mail already on the hard drive so Greg performed a demonstration of how SAM works to be able to get, read, compose and send out e-mail. Everything works except for the connection. It was neat to see SAM in action and Greg whipping through that e-mail like he'd read it all before. :0
Roy hung out and provided support for the group, tracking down disks and hardware. Ever the graceous host, offered pillows and blankets when Ed made a remark about spending the night waiting for Greg to finish. ;)
At one point in the evening, Roy attempted to loan Ed a (completely torn down) Laser128 computer for a club project.
Ultimately for the sake of making only one trip, Ed left the Laser there for Saturday assembly and pickup. The
"project" is a computer to use for catalogging the entire AppleLinc collection. Roy has had issues with the Apple II
he was using to record the inventory on and Ed thought a 'portable' II with lots of memory woudl be ideal.
Of course now Ed thinks that a IIc+ would work best. (That won't stop him from reassembling the Laser though.)
Somewhere around 11pm, Greg had finished up his demo and was tweaking Roy's IIgs when Ed decided that it was time to call it a night. (Ed was Greg's ride.) In about 20 minutes we deconstructed the IIgs and put things away. Hopefully Roy will invite us back again, I hope we didn't leave the place any the worse for wear.
Other discussions included the web domain name and who would make sure it would not expire. The process to get it updated and paid for was finalized. (Ed will do it with Ben's help.)
